Progress on the UN SDG Publishers Compact
Compuscript Ltd is proud to be a signatory to the United Nations SDG Publishers Compact, a voluntary initiative that recognises the publishing sector’s role in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals through responsible publishing practice, access to knowledge, and the communication of research that supports a more sustainable future.
As an Irish publishing and production partner serving scholarly, scientific, medical, and technical communities, Compuscript recognises that publishers and publishing-service providers have an important role to play in making trusted research more open, visible, inclusive, accessible, and useful to society.
Since joining the Compact, our progress has focused on the areas where we believe we can make the greatest contribution.

Open and equitable access to knowledge
Through Compuscript Publishing, we support fully open access journals, helping ensure that research is available online to readers immediately on publication, without subscription barriers. Our open access approach supports wider readership, greater visibility for authors, and broader access to knowledge across institutions, regions, and communities.
Responsible and trusted publishing
We continue to strengthen the integrity of the scholarly record through rigorous peer review, publication-ethics policies, plagiarism screening, paper-mill detection processes, AI-use disclosure requirements, and image-integrity checks.
We also support author and reviewer validation as part of responsible editorial and peer-review workflows. These checks help confirm the identity and suitability of contributors to the publishing process, support transparency and accountability, and reduce the risk of fraudulent submissions, compromised peer review, or inappropriate reviewer activity.
Together, these measures help our journal partners uphold internationally recognised standards of editorial practice and maintain trust in the research they publish.
Diversity, equity and inclusion
Compuscript is committed to enabling people from all backgrounds to contribute to and benefit from scholarship. Our diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments focus on amplifying diverse voices, increasing representation across editorial boards, peer review and authorship, improving accessibility, and increasing the visibility and impact of research that addresses prejudice, discrimination, and inequality.
As part of this commitment, Compuscript is certified by Benetech as a Global Certified Accessible (GCA) Conversion Vendor, qualified to produce EPUB content that meets rigorous global accessibility standards. This status reflects our commitment to helping publishers and partners create digital content that is accessible to people with disabilities and usable by the widest possible readership.
Transparency, reproducibility and long-term access
We encourage authors to share data, materials, and associated protocols through appropriate repositories and to link supplemental materials clearly to published articles. We also support discoverability and preservation through DOIs, Crossref registration, open metadata, and Portico archiving, helping ensure that published research remains findable, citable, and accessible over the long term.
Wider research impact
Across our publishing, editorial, and production services, we help researchers, editors, societies, and publishers communicate research clearly and effectively. This includes support for journal development, editorial office management, author and reviewer validation, data-reporting and reproducibility checks, digital production, accessible EPUB conversion, open access workflows, and research-promotion formats that can make research easier to discover, understand, and apply.
The SDG Publishers Compact is not a one-off pledge; it is a framework for continuous improvement. Our next steps are to make the SDGs more visible across our publishing programme, strengthen how we identify and report SDG-related activity, continue supporting authors and editors in responsible publishing practice, and identify practical ways to reduce the environmental impact of our own operations and supplier relationships.
Compuscript will continue to work with authors, editors, societies, publishers and partners to advance high-quality research that contributes to a more informed, equitable, accessible, and sustainable future.
